Health Education and Community Outreach


Problems


Listed below are factors which lead to an increase risk of health problems:

 

Knowledge

  • little or no available health wellness information

  • not finding early signs of disease

  • fear of the unknown

  • other concerns are seen as more important concerns

  • other than health concerns

 

Access to Care

  • lack of money

  • little or no health insurance

  • unaware of services

  • no transportation or not a bus route

 

Quality of Care

  • all services not in one place

  • cannot relate to doctor or other health workers

  • not seeing same health person every visit

 

Barriers of Effective Health Care

  • language barrier

  • lack of bilingual health professionals

  • beliefs and practices that influence health issues

 

The Coalition is concerned about improving:

 

Community Awareness

Increasing knowledge about minority health problems and their prevention through education, advocacy and information.


Community Self-Reliance

Helping people find the skill needed to address and solve personal, family, and community health problems. Emphasizing cultural differences. Advocating for more culturally and socially sensitive health education materials, and more culturally sensitive primary care providers in these communities.
